A message from Jos Vranken Jr.

On your site is called a accompaniment of Gregorian Chant of P.J. Jos Vranken. He was the father of Jaap Vranken (his name was called with the ?). The father of P.J. Jos Vranken was Jacques and he was the first in line of church musicians in the Netherlands. P.J. Jos Vranken (1870-06-10 1948-06-01) had three sons and a daughter. Jaap was the first (1897-04-20 1956-04-20) Arnold the second (1899-01-01 1971-07-02) and Jos J.H. the third (1900-05-10 1974-02-01). The daughter was the youngest. The three boys were also churchmusicians. Jaap was for Holland a famous composer of churchmusic. Arnold a conductor and he has a son, also churchmusician named Jos Arnoldszoon (1936-02-26 1998-11-020 Jos was a famous conductor of male voice choirs and he renewed the repertoire of Dutch male choirs with music of Stravinski, Hindemith, Martinu and others: these composers composed on his demand. I am the son of Jos J.H. born on 1939-08-01 and I am the last churchmusician in the line of the family Vranken.

    Weeping For Joy! (We Hope!)
Listening to this Easter Alleluia—an SATB arrangement I made twenty years ago based on the work of Monsignor Jules Van Nuffel—one of our readers left this comment: “I get tears in my eyes each time I sing to this hymn.” I hope this person is weeping for joy!

Random Quote

“For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders”—is that English idiom? “For the Nazis, and all the Germans, except they say Heil Hitler! meet not in the street, holding their lives valuable”—is that English idiom?

— Monsignor Ronald Knox
