Archbishop Sheen on Liturgy & Plainchant Choirs
“Sisters in pants distribute communion, while priests sit idle in the sanctuary. This ‘option’ results from a decay of the reverence for the Lord’s Presence.” —Fulton J. Sheen (1976)
Pope Saint Paul VI (3 April 1969): “Although the text of the Roman Gradual—at least that which concerns the singing—has not been changed, the Entrance antiphons and Communions antiphons have been revised for Masses without singing.”

“Sisters in pants distribute communion, while priests sit idle in the sanctuary. This ‘option’ results from a decay of the reverence for the Lord’s Presence.” —Fulton J. Sheen (1976)

Sheen replied: “Mr. President, I’m not the least bit impressed with your source.”

“Sometimes when you are confusing, you are mistaken for being learned.” —Fulton J. Sheen

In 1971, Sheen appeared on “Firing Line” and spoke about St. Augustine.

“I did my best to give utterance to all those black notes in the missal.” —Fulton J. Sheen

“Sheen told a friend of mine that anything he’d ever said of significance was taken from either Knox or Chesterton.” —Fr. George Rutler

Archbishop Sheen said nary a word about any liturgical reforms following the Council.

In spite of all the progress our civilizations have made, the self-appointed “expert liturgists” are regressing.

Archbishop Sheen did not produce this Missal alone: it was a joint effort by many, especially the Jesuit priests Rev. Philip Caraman and Rev. James Walsh.

Here at Watershed, Bishop Sheen is one of our favorites.
