E ATTEMPTED something on Quinquagesima Sunday: men’s voices only. We had one rehearsal, and someone kindly sent me these “live” excerpts from the Mass:
Considering we had but one rehearsal, I’m pleased…and this is something we will do again, because I think our first attempt shows great potential. By the way, the little pocket recorder doesn’t do justice the actual choir sound—indeed, it reproduces the beauty in a deplorably inaccurate way.
The idea at FSSP.la has always been to choose people from the pews—many of whom have never sung before—and teach them the holy chants of the church. Can this be challenging? Certainly, but the rewards are awesome.
