A lot of the favoured new settings are musically illiterate, almost is if they were written by semi-trained teenagers, getting to grips with musical rudiments. The style is stodgy and sentimental, tonally and rhythmically stilted, melodically inane and adored by Catholic clergy “of a certain age.” Some Catholic dioceses run courses for wannabe composers to perpetuate this style. It is a scandal. People with hardly any training and experience of even the basic building blocks of music have been convinced that there is a place for their puerile stumblings and fumblings in the modern Catholic Church because real musicians are elitist and off-putting.

Triumph Beyond Belief … Beyond Imagination
published 28 June 2017 by Jeff Ostrowski

NEVER DREAMED any music conference could be this powerful. The presentations have been utterly inspiring, the facilities are great, the conductors are superb, and the camaraderie is out of this world. May God be praised. In a world filled with negativity, complaining, and hand–wringing, FSSP.la is doing something positive and marvelous. May God be praised.

4978 “imagine”

Listening to all these experts—Dr. Calabrese, Dr. Buchholz, Fr. Popplewell, Dr. Tappan, Chris Avendaño, and so forth—I remember why I got into music in the first place!

I am so inspired, and the week is only half over!

The days are EXTREMELY LONG … but we can’t stop, because it’s so amazing.
