Food For Thought • How is it possible that ancient books were created with such care? Liturgical books from the 1970s seems so slipshod, clumsy, ugly, banal, dingy, and unworthy by comparison. But consider how many advantages people in the 1970s had. In the days of Saint Thomas Aquinas, there was no running water. Let that sink in! (Pardon the pun.) There was no hand sanitizer; there were no telephones; there were no automobiles; penicillin had not been invented; there were no electric lights; there was no Internet. Yet Catholics in those days somehow created masterpieces!
