EFORE LONG I will post an article discussing whether singers at Church should be paid. Some of my friends believe they should be, while others disagree. Without going into detail, let me say that my preference is not to hire paid singers. I like recruiting members of the actual parish and having them sing at Mass. This usually means a mixture of talent levels. I like to make practice videos for my choir—to help them learn—but please don’t tell Dr. Tappan! After all, Dr. Tappan is correct that choirs should learn to read music.
