Corpus Christi Watershed · October 15, 2013

RIAN J. NELSON (biography), a Catholic composer and convert to the Faith living and working in Lawrence, Kansas will appear on The Journey Home program with host Marcus Brodi on Monday, November 4 at 7pm on EWTN to discuss his journey to the Catholic Church. Originally from a Methodist and then Evangelical background, Brian was received into full communion with the Catholic Church in the Jubilee Year 2000 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He graduated from the University of Kansas with a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Composition in 2011 and currently works as the Director of Sacred Liturgy and Music at the St. Lawrence Catholic Campus Center. To date, his music is represented on two professional CDs (both widely available online):

1.   Responsorial Psalms for Advent and Christmas (Nelson Music 2009)

2.   Vocalise – Instrumental & Vocal Music of Brian J. Nelson (Nelson Music 2010)

Quick Thoughts

Vespers Booklet (4th Sunday of Lent)
The organ accompaniment booklet (24 pages) which I created for the 4th Sunday of Lent (“Lætare Sunday”) may now be downloaded, for those who desire such a thing.

Vespers Booklet, 3rd Sunday of Lent
The organ accompaniment I created for the 3rd Sunday of Lent (“Extraordinary Form”) may now be downloaded, if anyone is interested in this.
    —Jeff Ostrowski
    Weeping For Joy! (We Hope!)
Listening to this Easter Alleluia—an SATB arrangement I made twenty years ago based on the work of Monsignor Jules Van Nuffel—one of our readers left this comment: “I get tears in my eyes each time I sing to this hymn.” I hope this person is weeping for joy!

Random Quote

“All those who take part in sacred music, as composers, organists, choir directors, singers, or musicians should above all give good example of Christian life to the rest of the faithful because they directly or indirectly participate in the sacred liturgy.”

— Directive issued under Pope Pius XII on 3 Sept. 1958
