“How can we enter into this interior disposition except by turning physically—all together, priest and faithful—toward the Lord who comes, toward the East symbolized by the apse where the cross is enthroned? The outward orientation leads us to the interior orientation that it symbolizes. Since apostolic times, Christians have been familiar with this way of praying. It is not a matter of celebrating with one’s back to the people or facing them, but toward the East, «ad Dominum», toward the Lord.”
— Robert Cardinal Sarah, Prefect of the Vatican's Congregation for Divine Worship (October 2016)

We Desperately Need Monthly Donors

242 St Thomas ATERSHED DESPERATELY needs more donors willing to give $5.00 per month. Such donations allow our work to continue. We’ve chosen CORNERSTONE PAYMENT SYSTEMS to facilitate online payments. They’re a Christian company—with major clients such as Focus on the Family—and the results are stunning, secure, and clear:

Our work requires your generous support, because we have no endowment and zero major donors. We pray that God will continue to provide for our needs.

Corpus Christi Watershed is a 100% volunteer organization. I serve as president, but none of us is paid—and that includes our contributors, our treasurer, and our secretary. I don’t serve on the Board of Directors. I always hate asking for money, and I’m hoping our readers will avoid saying: “Oh, somebody else will help them…”

WHEN I’VE REQUESTED DONATIONS in the past, I’ve tried describing our current projects and what we hope to accomplish. For reasons I don’t fully understand, this technique never gets us donors, so I won’t do that. 1 I’ve seen other Catholic blogs brag about how many “page loads” they receive, and I could easily do likewise—but, to be honest, I find such tactics obnoxious.

Instead, I’ll share a message received earlier this week:

Dear Mr. Ostrowski,

Greetings from [ … ].   I’m writing to let you know how much I and many other parishioners appreciate the resources CCW provides. […] Our choir uses the Goupil propers too—they are easy to read and the translations are great for learning Latin. Also, I have been reading through all the CCW blog archives, and I’m glad to find so many practical and inspirational articles, unlike other Catholic blogs that seem to put out nothing but hurtful ranting. Keep writing—I have just graduated high school and would like to pursue a degree in liturgical music after I take a gap year, so I love to learn from your articles.

If there’s ever anything I can do to further your work, please let me know!

in the Hearts of Jesus and Mary,
          [   …   ]

We love receiving messages like that, from such an inspiring young lady. In a world filled with violence, ignorance, and dishonesty, we consider such people to be “little miracles.”

If you’ve been donating monthly through PayPal, you can continue. Alternately, you can cancel your PayPal setup and switch to this new system—because CORNERSTONE takes a much smaller percentage than PayPal.

                                                          Sincerely yours, in Christ,

1   For the record, two recent projects especially appreciated are the rehearsal videos website and the rare hymnals collection.
